Agency: NIDA

Agency Award Number: R21 DA036607

HIV associated neurocognitive impairment (NCI), which indicates brain injury during HIV infection, remains a significant public health issue, which may be worsened by drug abuse. This study will determine if the physiological disruptions produced by heroin withdrawal, something heroin addicted persons experience repeatedly, worsens HIV control and enhances inflammation in a manner that increases risk for brain injury.
