Congratulations to Rujvi Kamat for the award of a Tinker Research Travel Grant

Rujvi Kamat, a San Diego State University/University of California, San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology student working at the HNRP, was just awarded a Tinker Research Travel Grant from the UCSD Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies.  The award will provide funding for a 3-week visit to Hospital de Clinicas- Universidade Federal do Parana in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, where the HNRP has an on-going project (Ron Ellis, PI) examining the NP consequences of HIV infection.

The goal of her study is the identification of relevant cultural variables that would impact the evaluation and interpretation of neuropsychological performance in a Brazilian population. Focus groups will be used to obtain data regarding the relevance of these variables in a Brazilian context . Questions posed to participants will pertain to the following areas: nature of educational experience, use of academic skills, familiarity with test stimuli/equipment, conventions of communication, method of assessing daily functioning.

These data will be used to inform the analysis of the patterns of neurocognitive performance obtained from the on-going study in Brazil.
