Erica Weber Receives Award of Excellence from the Association of Test Publishers
Erica Weber, MA, will receive an award of excellence from the Association of Test Publishers at the 2010 American Psychological Association Annual Convention for her abstract “Survey of Memory-Related Quality of Life (SMRQoL): Evidence of reliability and validity”. The data presented provide preliminary evidence of reliability and validity of the SMRQoL. The research proved innovative by utilitzing self-report to assess the relationship between cognition and health-related Quality of Life (QoL).
Research has reported that memory deficits, commonly present with HIV infection, are associated with poorer general and health-related QoL. This study asked participants about the relationship between their perceived memory impairments and QoL. The data collected from this study could increase understanding of the direct influence of memory deficits on QoL, and may assist clinicians in recognizing patients’ poorer functional outcomes due to cognitive impairment. Improved treatment options may be furthered in part by the findings of this study.
Ms. Weber has been affiliated with the HNRC since 2006 as a neuropsychometrist. She received her BA from Boston University in 2005, and currently is in her 2nd year of the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Neuropsychology. With her mentor Dr. Steven Woods, she has worked on the PROM study investigating how aging and HIV infection affect memory, everyday functioning, and medication adherence. Her research focus includes the neuropsychology of HIV and its impact on daily functioning, treatment adherence, and QoL. Ms. Weber has published 12 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has presented numerous abstracts at conferences.
