The Acute Infection and Early Disease Research Program (AIEDRP) studies how the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes disease in adults. AIEDRP is funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

3   Link   UCSD AIDS Research Institute (ARI)
In 1996, the AIDS Research Institute, an Organized Research Unit (ORU) was established by the Regents of the University of California to coordinate the diverse AIDS research and clinical activities on the UCSD campus. The Institute is housed within the School of Medicine at UCSD.

4   Link   UCSD Center for AIDS Research (CFAR)
The Centers for AIDS Research (CFAR) program at the National Institutes of Health provides administrative and shared research support to synergistically enhance and coordinate high quality AIDS research projects. CFARs accomplish this through core facilities that provide expertise, resources, and services not otherwise readily obtained through more traditional funding mechanisms.

5   Link   UCSD Owen Clinic
The Owen Clinic incorporates the various disciplines that an AIDS patient may utilize into one outpatient clinic, saving the patient the effort and confusion of going to many stations to get his or her needs met. An experienced team of physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners utilizes 15 rooms for patient exams, and each patient is assigned a primary care practitioner based on his or her particular needs.

7   Link   UCSD Division of Infectious Diseases
The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine was established in 1969 and since then has grown to have 28 faculty members. Our research space is located in several buildings on and off campus including the Clinical Teaching Facility, the Antiviral Research Center at Front and Washington in Hillcrest, the Stein Clinical Research Building, the Moores Cancer Center, the VA Medical Center in La Jolla, the Cellular and Molecular Medicine East Building, and the George Palade Laboratories for Cellular and Molecular Medicine.

The mission of the San Diego Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) is to create an environment that advances health care through interactions between basic scientists, clinical investigators, community physicians, and patients. We intend to address the barriers that inhibit productivity and rapid translation of research progress into new therapies.
